Shoes & Fashion

Shoes and fashion items from well-known brands are often copied. Sought-after sneaker models, branded jackets and accessories are advertised in fake shops as a supposed sale, stock clearance or remainder sell-off.

A fake outlet in cross-section

The shop imitates the brand itself. Four places give it away.

  1. Logo and imagery of the brandBoth are taken from the real brand. That the shop belongs to the brand is not proven by this.
  2. Blanket discount on everythingReal outlets discount individual lines. A discount on the whole range usually comes with a reason such as closing down.
  3. Reason for the discountClearance, closing-down sale or remaining stock replace proof of where the goods come from.
  4. Access through adsThe shop is promoted through social media ads rather than a known retailer site.

Typical scams in Shoes & Fashion

  • A shop offers limited or highly sought-after sneaker models that are sold out or hard to find in the trade.
  • The presentation looks like an “outlet” or “warehouse sale” with time-pressure elements such as countdown timers or supposedly limited quantities.
  • If anything is delivered at all, a recognisable counterfeit arrives instead of the genuine article, without original packaging, invoice or certificate of authenticity.
  • Size charts, material details and care instructions are missing or copied from other shops.

What to watch for in Shoes & Fashion

The general warning signs with examples
  • Current, limited sneakers or models are shown as permanently available in any size and colour.
  • Countdown displays or “only X left in stock” build artificial buying pressure.
  • There is no information on the materials, origin or authenticity guarantee of the branded goods.
  • According to the terms and conditions, returns are only possible if the buyer covers the costs, even though a statutory right of withdrawal exists.
